From Graduation to Integration: Closing the Gender Talent Gap Between African Universities and the Mining Sector

Across Africa, more women are graduating with qualifications in mining and mining-related disciplines, yet many continue to face challenges as they transition from higher education into the workforce. Strengthening this journey is essential not only for gender equality, but for the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the industry.
On 20 August 2026, Shared Value Africa & Gender Equality Unit, in strategic partnership withSibanye-Stillwater, will host the African Universities Gender Equality Forum (AUGEF) to explore practical solutions that strengthen the transition from university to meaningful careers for women in the mining sector.
Through expert insights, shared experiences and collaborative dialogue, the forum aims to identify actionable opportunities to strengthen Africa & talent pipeline, foster more inclusive workplaces, and support the next generation of women leaders in the mining industry.
