My Africa : Reclaiming Our Power, Redefining Our Value
There is a stirring across our continent and a shift that can be felt not only in our economies and societies but deep in our collective spirit. For too long, Africa has been defined by others, seen as a continent in waiting, a place of problems instead of possibilities. But I believe that narrative is changing. I believe we are stepping into a new season. And it is not by accident.
Africa sits at the centre of the world, quite literally. Look at any global map and you’ll see it: our continent, shaped like a heart, anchoring the globe. I’ve come to believe that Africa is the heart of the world. A place of immense value, resilience, and potential. And like the heart, we are vital, not only to our own future, but to the future of the planet. I believe deeply that God has a plan for Africa. And that plan is unfolding now.
For centuries, others have dictated the terms of our engagement, with our people, our resources, our economies. But today, more than ever, I see a quiet strength rising. A unity that is born not of defiance, but of clarity. Clarity about who we are, what we stand for, and the kind of future we want to shape for ourselves.
Recent events in America and elsewhere have made it glaringly obvious that the world’s so-called powers still wish to steer the global narrative. But Africa is no longer the passive participant. We are finding our voice. And with that voice, comes the power to lead.
I’ve seen this shift in boardrooms, in youth-led startups, in women entrepreneurs breaking barriers, and in farmers embracing innovation. I’ve seen it in cross-border partnerships and in the way our private sector is beginning to understand that profit with purpose is not a luxury, but a necessity.
We do not want handouts. We are not looking to be saved. We are creating. We are building. And we are owning our role as drivers of global prosperity and sustainability.
It is time we reclaim our value. Time, we stop seeking validation from external forces and instead, invest in our own. It is time to back African businesses, support African innovation, and celebrate African excellence without needing it to be filtered through foreign approval.
This is the Africa I believe in, an Africa standing tall, connected, and driven by purpose. An Africa led by ethical leaders who prioritise people. An Africa where our youth are not seen as a risk but as the competitive advantage we have been gifted with.
Yes, there is much to do. But the momentum is here. The awakening is real. The heart is beating stronger.
Let us rise – not in opposition to others, but in alignment with our own truth.
Africa’s time is now. And this time, the story will be written by us.
